Do you know this feeling when suddenly you feel hungry and you just reach for snacks and sweets? Food cravings usually come unexpectedly and are severe! Not just with you. But the good news is: You can regulate food cravings yourself once you know the causes.
“I knew this lust all too well, but have now found a way to avoid it. For me it was mostly because I had eaten nothing for too long or had eaten the wrong beforehand. ”
For eleven years as a model, Franziska has not been able to ignore the subject of eating or dieting. It was precisely from this that she developed her interest in learning more about our metabolic processes and diets. After graduating as a nutritionist, she developed a nutritional concept to put an end to food cravings.
“If you are at the mercy of a ravenous hunger attack, but deal with it smartly, you can avoid it the next time. Here knowledge helps to learn from past mistakes! ”
What exactly is cravings?
According to Franziska, a hunger attack is usually a call for help from the body. Food increases the blood sugar level. In order to reduce this again, the body produces insulin. Certain unhealthy foods such as sugar, white flour products, etc. cause the blood sugar level to rise faster and then drop again just as quickly. In this case, the body demands replenishment – preferably in the form of quickly usable sugars in order to satisfy the cravings as quickly as possible. A kind of vicious circle that is easy to break.
What are the reasons for cravings?
Stress, hormonal changes or deficiency symptoms such as calcium deficiency can lead to our bodies often craving for something salty. Franziska cites physical and mental exertion, too long meal breaks or too small meals as possible reasons for food cravings. Also diseases such as diabetes, thyroid malfunction, etc. – if you have the slightest suspicion, you should consult a doctor in this case and have it clarified.
“The most common reason for food cravings is the consumption of foods that could be described as ‘not optimal'”, explains Franziska with a wink.
What can you do against food cravings?
The motto here is: Knowledge is power. Knowing the causes of food cravings means being able to avoid them skillfully: You should eat consciously, eat at regular intervals and in sufficient quantities, and use healthy and wholesome foods in times of stress and exertion, recommends Franziska.
Another important and not to be underestimated factor is doing without! This results in cravings or in German cravings, which can lead to an appetite for mostly unhealthy foods. These occur when we forbid ourselves too often, too much. It is therefore important that we consciously incorporate cravings into our everyday lives.
“Prohibitions are not good in normal life and also play a role in diet that should not be underestimated. In those moments when you forbid certain foods over and over again, your body craves them more and more, which can lead to food cravings later on. That is why it is important to consciously incorporate them into your everyday life in the right amounts. ”
In her book “Modelsize” Franziska describes: “One of the most important principles is 5 meals a day. In this we build the cravings for certain foods that we crave again and thus avoid the emergence of cravings. ”
As Paracelsus said: “The dose makes the poison.” And that is 100% true in this case too.
